Synopsis Estimates of soil variability were obtained from data on experimental corn grown at 15 locations in Iowa. A weighted regression analysis was used and an estimate of .46 was obtained from the combined analysis over all locations with the estimates at the individual locations ranging from .35 to .78. Convenient combinations of plot size were calculated for various combinations of soil variability and coefficients of variation.
