Synopsis A mathematical model was developed from the structure and design of a crop rotation experiment. The data were collected from a two‐year cornsoybean rotation replicated three times. Sixteen fertility treatments were applied to each whole plot, and the rotation was continued for six years. The analysis of variance, based on this model, is developed, and the computational procedures are described in detail. The expectation of the mean squares for the several sources of variation provide a basis for determining the appropriate F tests.
