By R. L. COOK, Professor of Soil Science, Michigan State University. As indicated by the title, this book is a practical discussion of the subject. Soils are destined by their natural characteristics to produce crop yields within a definite range. The proper management practices raise production to the top of the range. Selection and application of individual practices must be varied according to soil type and climate. This is explained in separate chapters pertaining to the soil management problems in six climatic areas: the North Central Region, the South, the Southwest, the Great Plains, Florida and adjoining flatwoods, and the Northeast.
