Synopsis A method for estimating the proportional equivalence of an applied nutrient to the corresponding nutrient existing in the soil is presented. If soil tests are made both before and after nutrient application, the proposed method can be used and promises to be direct and effective. An application of the method to lime and alfalfa experimental data is presented. Possibilities and implications of the procedure with regard to fertilizer recommendations are briefly discussed.
