Synopsis Seven winter oat varieties gave significant variety×fertilizer interactions for grain yields, protein content of grain, and straw weight. Length of panicle, height of plant, and number of tillers per foot of row were increased by fertilizer applications. Medium and high rates of fertilization hastened the heading date by two days over low fertilization. An adapted variety plus medium to high fertilization rates are essential for the economical production of oats in the Southeast.
