Synopsis The relationship of the proximate analysis and lignin content of some forage grasses to apparent digestibility and rate of consumption by sheep was determined statistically. For the prediction of apparent digestibility of orchardgrass strains, it is recommended that a regression equation of digestibility of energy on lignin content be used. A multiple regression of digestibility of energy on lignin and protein content proved to be the best prediction of apparent digestibility for species and genera comparisons.
