Synopsis Nitrogen fertilizer applied at time of seeding influenced the percentage of emergence of all species in each seeding in proportion to the amount of nitrogen applied. In two experiments significant reductions in stands resulted. Seedling weights 28 days after emergence were not influenced by nitrogen fertilization; 56 days after emergence seedling weights were increased by higher nitrogen rates. Yields were usually depressed. Red clover and Ladino clover were depressed more than alfalfa and birdsfoot trefoil.
