Synopsis Four metal chelates, with different stability constants for Fe, were placed in nutrient solution. Three plant species were grown on these solutions. The absorption of Fe by one plant species appeared related to the stability constants of the metal chelates. There was no relationship between the stability constants of the metal chelates and the absorption of Fe by the other plant species. The stability of metal chelates may be altered at the root.
