Synopsis Winterkill in winter oats occurred during January in the 2 years studied. Winterkill was related to the temperature of the soil. Soil temperatures of 22° F. at 1‐inch depth caused significant winterkilling in certain varieties of winter oats. Winterhardiness increased as age of plants increased.
