Synopsis Domestic ryegrass was the most effective in preventing splash erosion. During the spring, rye was equally effective as the field brome. During the fall, nonhardy alfalfa and field brome were less effective than ryegrass. Spatial volume (average height × density) gave the best relation with effectiveness in controlling splash erosion.
