Synopsis In nine populations involving F 2 , F 3 , and F 4 generations from several susceptible ✕ resistant crosses variation in segregating populations was continuous with distributions approaching normality. Heritability estimates, calculated by several methods, were high. The data indicate that Septoria reaction should be treated as a quantitative character in oat breeding.
