Synopsis Several trends were revealed, possibly related to resistance. Large differences between the contents of β‐alanine and ethanolamine were found in aphids on resistant and susceptible alfalfa. Ethanolamine and pipecolic acid were identified as new constituents of alfalfa aphid honeydew. Environmental effects were significant.
