Synopsis Banded superphosphate caused much greater seedling growth of alfalfa than the same amounts mixed with the soil but subsequent yields did not differ significantly. Regardless of placement, limestone or muriate of potash did not benefit establishment but later were very effective in maintaining stands and yields.
