Synopsis At the time of harvest plants which had set seed were significantly smaller with a less amount of carbohydrates than plants which had matured only to the vegetative, bud, or flower stage of growth. Vegetative plants had a smaller proportion of tops to roots than reproductive plants. After the harvest plants which had set seed survived as long and grew as much in a dark chamber as the less mature plants.
