Synopsis Both embryo and inner seedcoat dormancy of freshly harvested guayule achenes were completely broken by continuous exposure to daylight during a germination period of 3 weeks. Gibberellin substituted for light in completely breaking both embryo and inner seedcoat dormancy. Reducing the depth of immediate sand covers increased germination of untreated and hypo‐chlorite‐treated achenes, mainly because of light transmission through the sand. Gibberellin increased emergence of nondormant seed under a soil cover.
