Synopsis In 22 oat crosses studied in the F 2 to F 6 generations the environmental and genetic variances for heading date were positively associated, whereas for plant height they were independent. Apparently the environmental factor which most influences heading date interacted differently with the genotype than did the factor or factors having major influence upon plant height.
