Synopsis Average species height times percentage of the ground covered by the species (H x G) was found to be correlated with the species yield determined by clipping, separating, and weighing. The H x G factor for each species showed more significant differences between treatments and had lower coefficients of variation than the yield data for that species. Much less time was required to obtain the H x G measurement than to get species yields, and the precision of H x G was greater.
