Synopsis Alfalfa and red clover fixed significantly greater quantities of CO 2 under all light treatments than birdsfoot trefoil. Plants which had been grown under an illumination period with a constant light intensity took up a greater amount of CO 2 than plants which had been grown under an illumination period of the same length and light quantity but at several different intensities.
