Synopsis Among soybean crosses grown in bulk, a differential response occurred for seed yield but not for plant height, lodging index, or relative maturity when the same generation was tested in different years. However, crosses responded similarly for all characters when different generations were tested concurrently using seed of the same age. Crops grown from 2‐ and 3‐year old seed were lower in yield and slightly later in maturity than those grown from 1‐year old seed.
