Synopsis The average yields of Fortuna increased each 7‐year period of the 28 years. The 7‐year average yields of the 4 varieties susceptible to diseases present during the period varied according to prevalence or control of specific diseases. White tip control appears to be necessary to get a maximum response from nitrogen fertilizer in susceptible varieties. Short or long term yields may be a poor basis for predicting comparable yields of rice varieties that differ in disease reaction.
