Synopsis Alfalfa varieties in the seedling stage varied widely in percentages of survival following infestation with spotted alfalfa aphids. Alfalfas of Turkistan origin generally ranked highest. Resistant plants may be selected from most varieties tested as indicated by the increased survival of polycross progenies of plants surviving seedling infestation. Greenhouse results are indicative of field reaction to natural infestation at least in the seedling stage at relatively high temperatures.
