Synopsis Four Sudangrass varieties produced much less dry matter when harvested under the pasture system than when harvested under the hay system. Cutting date had no effect on the rank of the varieties in herbage production under hay management. Disease susceptible varieties tend to produce relatively less dry matter than disease resistant varieties, at the hay rather than the pasture system of management, and at the late rather than the early cutting dates within the hay system of management.
