Synopsis Experimental data obtained over a 3‐year period with field plots located on Cheshire sandy loam indicate that in humid climates under irrigated conditions with adequate fertilization, it is not necessary to clean cultivate to obtain maximum corn yields, provided the structure of the soil is maintained at an optimum. Under these conditions, one cultivation or use of herbicide may be adequate.
