pigmentation in the stigmas of Dallisgrass makes it difficult to observe the pollen tubes within the stigma. When a dilute solution of sodium hypochlorite was applied prior to the periodic acid in the above technique, the differential staining was lost. • For permanent slide preparations of the growing pollen tube, this technique appears to have a broad application in the grass family.—J.
