K Hibiscus cannabinns L., has been classified on several occasions as a self-pollinated crop. Recent results obtained in Cuba show that considerable natural crossing occurs. Under Cuban conditions Kenaf probably should be classified as often cross-pollinated. Certainly, the problem of maintaining purity and genetic identity.of varieties is complicated by the natural crossing. The maintenance of varietal purity necessitates the accumulation of data on the agents concerned with natural crossing.
