MALEIC hydrazide, a plant growth inhibitor, has been used in storage studies with apples and potatoes, in delaying blossoming with certain tree fruits and to prevent suckering of tobacco. It has also been used to induce male sterility in corn. A number of workers (2, 5, 6, 7, 8) in recent years have reported morphological variations in several plant species caused by certain concentrations of maleic hydrazide.
