this nature and no attempt was made to reproduce the fires artificially. However, it does appear that the heavy undergrowth of bluegrass and the sudden change in temperature and humidity were probably important contributing factors. Otherwise, it would seem that spontaneous combustion would more commonly follow the use of chlorates. Regardless of the underlying cause or causes of the fires on sprayed weed plats, the importance of caution when spraying weeds with this chemical cannot be too strongly emphasized..Especially is this true if spontaneous combustion occurs when spraying in the proximity of haystacks, buildings, mature grain fields, or on ranges and other places where serious loss may result.--D.
