Vigor in Soybeans in Relation to Inhibition of Pubescence 1

It has been reported by Nagai and Saito (1) 3 and by Owen (2) that the dominant factor P1 which inhibits the development of pubescence also reduces the vigor and delays the development of the soybean plant (So]a max Piper). Wentz and Stewart (4) found that the recessive glabrous factor 10~ had little, if any, effect on plant development when in the hetero~ygous condition, although the plants homozygous for/)2 were greatly reduced in size and vigor below the pubescent type. Data on plant development secured from three crosses involving the factor P1 are presented here.
