SEEDS OF WHEAT AND BARLEY C. E. ROSENQUIST In hybridizing wheat it is often advisable to secure as many FI kernels as possible. Especially is this true if, in the first generation, hybrid vigor is to be studied. A method of crossing wheat and barley which results in a comparatively large number of crossed kernels per spike, has been used at the Illinois Station with good success. This method has been designated as the "approach method" and is a variation of the method explained by Jelinek in 1918.
