The most favorable time for planting corn varies with different localities, seasons, and varieties. Usual planting dates for the southern portion of the corn belt are earlier than those for the northern portion. In the northern portion planting is begun, however, when the soil and air temperatures are lower than they are at the beginning of planting time in the central and southern portions.
