Community Reception and the Value of Character Education in the Legend of DatuTimang. This study aims to describe the factors causing reception actions / forms ofcommunity receptions, and the value of character education in the Datu Timang story.This research is a descriptive qualitative research through a literary reception approach.Sources of research data were taken from the informants' speech either throughinterviews, field observations at Datu Timang's grave, and manakib documents or booksrelated to Datu Timang. The results of this study are (1) it can be seen the forms ofcommunity reception of Datu Timang's story in the form of a biography. Theimplementation of the Datu Timang haul, the number of pilgrims to the grave of DatuTimang, the habit of reading manakib, the presence of people who are fluent in telling thehistory of Datu Timang, and the document manakib / books that were published. Thefactors influensing are the the factors of the existence of vows, factors of love forguardians, actors whisful thinking/desires (marriage fartners,offspring/children,sustenance,etc.), socio-cutural factors, meanwhile. (2) it can be seen thevalue of character education in the story so that it can be an example for readers,especially the younger generation, namely. (1) religious (faith, piety, and gratitude); (2)responsibility; (3) social care (prioritizing public interests, being helpful, willing tosacrifice, cooperating, sharing, and loving; (4) discipline; (5) humble; (6) courageous;(7) hard work.Key words: community reception, legendary stories, Datu Timang, value, character educationAbstrakResepsi Masyarakat dan Nilai Pendidikan Karakter Cerita Datu Timang. Penelitianini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk resepsi masyarakat dan nilaipendidikan karakter yang ada dalam cerita Datu Timang. Penelitian ini berjenis penelitiankualitatif deskriptif melalui pendekatan resepsi sastra. Sumber data penelitian diambil darituturan informan baik melalui kegiatan wawancara mendalam, observasi lapangan dimakam Datu Timang, dan dokumen manakib atau buku yang berkaitan dengan DatuTimang. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah (1) dapat diketahui bentuk-bentuk resepsimasyarakat terhadap cerita Datu Timang berupa riwayat hidup. pelaksanaan haul DatuTimang, banyaknya peziarah ke makam Datu Timang, adanya kebiasaan membacamanakib, adanya orang yang fasih menceritakan riwayat Datu Timang, dan adanyadokumen riwayat DT /manakib, atau buku cerita rakyat DT yang diterbitkan. Selain itujuga faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhinya adalah adanya nazar, faktor kecintaan terhadapwali, adanya angan-angan atau keinginan (jodoh,keturunan,rezeki,dsb.), faktor sosialbudaya, (2) dapat diketahui nilai pendidikan karakter yang ada pada cerita sehingga dapatmenjadi contoh bagi pembaca khususnya generasi muda, yaitu. (1) religius (iman, takwa,dan syukur); (2) tanggung jawab; (3) peduli sosial (mementingkan kepentingan umum,penolong, rela berkorban, kerja sama, suka berbagi, dan pengasih; (4) disiplin; (5) rendahhati; (6) pemberani; (7) kerja keras.Kata-kata kunci: resepsi masyarakat, cerita legenda, Datu Timang, nilai, pendidikan karakter
