Considering some current theoretical discussions within the framework of french discourse analysis about the notions of “text” and “discourse”, this article asserts that the investigations about such relations should take into account the notion of “ethos” as it was developed by Maingueneau. In order to illustrate our position, we present some analysis Brazilian jokes.
