To understand how intelligibility occurs in discourses of scientific journalism, this paper observes the process of re-contextualization that transforms scientific papers in journalistic articles. We analyzed one paper written by a researcher from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) and the journalistic article that was written according to this paper and published in Boletim UFMG. The process of re-contextualization was observed according to categories created by Ciapuscio (1997). We realized that journalists use several strategies of re-contextalization to guarantee that their texts are understood by public and that texts more understandable help in the development of a scientific culture that gives citizens the power of critical thinking in scientific themes.
