We investigated the emergence of metadiscursive strategies in the interpretation of metaphorical proverbs by aphasics. Our perspective is sociocognitive and interactionist (KOCH; CUNHA-LIMA, 2011). The corpus consists of explanations of meanings and indication of situations of use of proverbs by aphasics. The analyzes are based on the subdivision of metaformulative, modalizing and metaenunciative strategies (KOCH, 2004). We verified the occurrence of the three types of strategies, especially the metaformulatives. This emergence highlights the linguistic-cognitive characteristics of the condition, showing both difficulties in categorizing, evoking and predicating, as well as attempts to circumvent interpretive obstacles according to the possibilities of socio-cognitive reorganization.
