Performative missions of the simius sapiens: Coco Fusco on the Planet of the ApesThe article examines performances of the Cuban-born artist Coco Fusco, who in her interdisciplinary projects raises issues related to national, ethnic, gender and genre identity. In a series of performances entitled Observations of Predation in Humans: A Lecture by Dr. Zira, Animal Psychologist from 2013, Fusco, inspired by the history of the Planet of the Apes film series and the latest research in primacy, takes on the role of Dr. Zira to teach anthropology from a non-human perspective, as a chimpanzee.
