In the following article, the author briefly analyzes the activity of Władysław Syrokomla — the Polish poet of Romanticism — in terms of his attitude to the Polish cultural code. Three areas of the writer’s activity have been analyzed: his literary work (mainly gawędy), activity as a translator and literary researcher, and finally — his social involvement in nationwide and local affairs. The author of the article states that the works of Syrokomla bring with them values that are up to date and may become a signpost for the young generation of Polish intellectuals.
