Demographic aging is a global challenge, both for the world as a whole and for individual countries. The object of research in this text is the aging of the Chinese population, the subject of study is the specifics of the aging of the population in this country and the consequences associated with this process. The purpose of this work was to identify the risks of socio-economic development of the state caused by this phenomenon. The basis of the research methodology is the use of comparative analysis methods, as well as correlation and variation coefficients. The scientific novelty of the study is due to the identification of the features of China's demographic aging and socio-economic challenges associated with the aging process of the PRC population. China has completed the stage of implementing the first demographic dividend, which will inevitably lead to an increase in the scale of the consequences of population aging. In particular, in the coming decades, China will face a colossal increase by world standards in the coefficients of dependence on the elderly population (in particular, the growth of net consumers in older ages).
