“El Señor del Trueno” is a story from the oral tradition of San Bartolomé Ayautla, Oaxaca. The story was narrated by Josefina Sánchez in En Nima or Ayautla Mazatec. The text tells a miracle performed by the Señor del Trueno for the man who went to the mountain in search of ocote wood, since the mayordomo needed ocote for the festival of labrada de velas in honor of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle. This article presents the textin two versions: a narrated and a written one. The article includes, in addition, an introduction to some aspects of Ayautla Mazatec grammar and a morphological analysis, a glossed version of the narrated text is included alongside a free translation.
