Abstract Although the objectives of illumination and display applications are different, the reasons to adopt LEDs and the requirement on LEDs have many similiraties. The wide variety of illumination applications and use conditions has resulted in many different lamp types. It is expected that many different LED types will be required to serve the illumination market needs. In contrast to display, Energy Star requirements for illumination do not only specify energy consumption, but also the quality of light and long term lumen and color stability. LEDs that meet these stability requirements, have the option to be used in both market segments.
