Abstract In order to interact with 3D display by finger, reflecting mode system with embedded optical sensor and sequential illuminator is presented. It can really interact with and touch on the 3D images by bare hand. Based on this system, a region based depth algorithm was proposed for detecting different working region to output (x, y, z) coordinates. Finally, the proposed algorithm had been successfully implemented on a 4‐inch panel.
