A series of near IR absorbing polymeric filters have been designed that meet the requirements for NVIS compliance defined by MIL‐STD‐3009 and the recommended black screen requirements set forth by the US Navy. This paper will discuss the limitations of the mil spec when night vision performance is evaluated in the laboratory and not in application. This report addresses and quantifies the luminance, color rendering, and NVIS performance of 3 ruggedized displays currently being flown on aerospace platforms with four different NVIS filters.
