In this paper, we develop a system for adaptively adjusting the backlight luminance enabling extreme power reduction. Tools to maintain primary color brightness and saturation are described. Using the proposed system, RGBW color and backlight dimming can be appropriately managed. This novel technology was successfully implemented in our 10.1″ checkerboard RGBW LCD.
