To achieve a thin backlight unit for 2‐D dimmable display, a 85.81mm‐diagonal monolithic block‐wise functional light‐guide plate has been developed using louver prisms for extracting light, round prisms for shaping light cone, and recessed graded height U‐grooves as semi‐partitions between consecutive blocks for controlling crosstalk. By using the monolithic light‐guide plate, the crosstalk is suppressed to 20% and 5% at the centers of the first and second neighboring blocks, respectively.
