while the solid state lighting has already become a reality using blue LEDs with yellow phosphor (B+Y), progress development and the luminous efficacy of ultraviolet light emitting diode (UV‐ LED) improvements have followed. Soon white emission as the product of nearUV (nUV)‐LEDs exciting red, green and blue (RGB) phosphors will also contribute to the solid state lighting revolution. We present the technologies and the possibility of using nUV+RGB white LEDs for the application to LCD backlighting.
