This paper presented a precise methodology to completely characterize the optical properties of the phosphor layer in phosphor‐converted LEDs. As long as the coated phosphor layer is available for measurement, the Monte Carlo simulation assisted by the proposed spectrum‐related bidirectional distribution function can predict the pcLED properties with high accuracy. The proposed scheme verified by a general pcLED with conformai phosphor coating provides an effective way for phosphor characterization.
