We report wide temperature range blue phase liquid crystals for display applications. Systematical analysis of the relationship of dielectric anisotropy value Δε and the blue phase liquid crystal BPLC temperature range shows that the BP temperature range increases as the Δε decrease. Additionally, we also find that as the chiral concentration of the blue phase increases, the BP temperature range decreases. The studied BPLCs also exhibit fast response time of 400 μs using IPS cells with a fixed cell gap and electrode line and space of 10 μm. These results can be explained based on the defect theory and would give effective guidance during the application of BPLC. Detailed physical, optical, dielectric and electrooptical study will be presented.
