Abstract A low voltage bluephase LCD with patterned electrodes is proposed. By optimizing the protrusion electrode configurations, we have successfully reduced the onstate voltage to ∼10V while keeping a relatively high transmittance. This approach enables bluephase LCDs to be driven by aSi TFTs.
