Abstract Clipping is one of the most annoying artifacts caused by pixel compensated local dimming technique in LCDs. Severe clipping artifact will reduce image local contrast and erase texture details. This paper proposes some quantified method for evaluating the severity of clipping artifact. The proposed evaluation method can be carried out easily by using some designed patterns and simple counting method.
