A microretarder for stereoscopic display is a thin film consisting of horizontal or vertical stripes with alternating null and half‐wave phase retardation states. The incorporation between in‐cell absorptive polarizer and in‐cell microretarder has been successfully produced in our experiment. By adding an additional out‐cell biaxial quarter wave plate, wide‐view patterned circular polarizer in a wider wavelength range can be achieved. The simulation results show obvious improvement for off‐axis illumination of patterned circular polarizer by biaxial film compensation. Finally, the experimental and simulation result will be discussed.
