A single‐Sided polyimide ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) cell with an inherent asymmetric electrooptic (EO) characteristic was studied. However, its transmittance was too low (< 26%) in practical applications. Therefore, with the help of fields in the cooling duration, the asymmetric EO property could be transformed into half V‐shaped (HV) switching type. The transmittance of bright state was increased by 6% for the cell thickness of 2.7 μm at an applied voltage of 10 volts.
